Popa Falls Resort gets facelift

Namibia Wildlife Resort’s (NWR) Popa Falls Resort is a gateway to the north-eastern corner of Namibia and home to perennial rivers, magnificent indigent woodlands, riverine forests, floodplains and reed-lined channels. The resort is located on the Okavango River near Divundu and the falls are accessible by foot. According to spokesperson of NWR, Nelson Ashipala, the falls are in fact not falls as one may expect but instead are instead a series of cascades with water flowing over rock ledges, which splits the rocks and forms the vast network of river channels. Ashipala says that currently they are busy retouching the resort which includes replacing the grass roofs at the entrance, ablution facilities at the camping area and the reception, the administration area as well as the restaurant with tiles. He said that this is just the first phase and will cost about N$2 million. The second phase will be to move on to the rooms. According to Ashipala the resort offers 10 river cabins which have stunning views facing the thick forest of Hippo Island and overlooking the slow running Okavango.Each room has two beds, a mosquito net, shower essentials and wardrobes. You have air conditioning and BBQ facilities.There are also six bush chalets, 4 luxury units and 10 campsites while there is also a family unit. Overlanders can also make use of the camping area. The restaurant is in a tranquil setting of Popa falls lodge. The bar is also fully serviced and spacious to cater comfortably for our visitors.Activities that can be undertaken at the resort are game drives, boat cruises and bird watching. Popa falls lodge is the ideal destination to explore the Mahango and Buffalo game reserves. These reserves are home to 450 species of birds and a large variety of wildlife.
