#JustIn: Nam still one of the top African tourist destinations
Namibia was rated as the fourth greatest country in Africa to visit by United Kingdom tourists, according to The Telegraph Travel Awards 2023.
Globally, it was in the 16th spot.
Readers of The Telegraph, the UK’s news website of the year, “vote in significant numbers for their chosen corner of the planet – providing a clear picture of where we travel as a nation, and what we like,” the website states.
In this year’s awards, the first since 2019, South Africa was the favourite in Africa, followed by Kenya and Botswana.
According to The Telegraph’s data, Namibia is struggling to reclaim its global rankings of previous years.
In 2015/16, 2018 and 2019, the country was ranked 9th in the world. In 2017, it was UK travellers’ 7th most preferred destination.
The top five countries globally in 2023 was South Africa (1st), New Zealand (2nd), Maldives (3rd), Japan (4th) and Australia (5th).
