Sources have confirmed that administrators of the Women’s Super League and the Namibia Football Association (NFA) are still in negotiation with former sponsors FNB Namibia.

As things stand, there is no clear indication as to when the league season will start after the three-year agreement between NFA and FNB ended at the end of last season.

A source at the NFA’s women’s football desk told Sport Wrap that they are working tirelessly towards securing the sponsorship.

“I can confirm that the negotiations are underway and I heard it’s looking positive that the bank will commit to women’s football again.

“We all know that women’s football is just as important as the men’s game and that is why it is important that we get the sponsors on board.

“I believe it will be important to have all leagues start at the same time this time around ... not like last year,” the source said.

Last sponsorship

The bank came to the aid of women’s football in 2023 after committing to a sponsorship of N$7,5 million for over a three-year period.

The three-year sponsorship was broken down into N$2,5 million per year which the league was using mostly for administration and prize money.

“There is a lot that needs to be done to develop women’s football; we are grateful for what FNB has done towards women’s football.

“It is important to have a league running consistently in order to give an opportunity for many players to showcase their talent,” the source said.

Last season

Beauties FC were crowned champions of the 2024-2025 season with an impressive unbeaten record in 22 matches, collecting 58 log points during that period.

The team’s remarkable unbeaten streak saw them winning N$250,000 in the process.

FC Ongos Ladies finished in second place, earning N$150,000, while African Stars Ladies walked away with N$100,000 for their efforts.

FC Ongos\' goal machine, Memory Ngonda, won both Player of the Season and Top Scorer of the Season after netting 39 goals.

Patiently waiting

Those who are part of the league are eager to have football started in time, in order to put their plans into action.

Ongos Ladies FC coach Shama Gure says his team will be ready to put up a fight this time around after Beauties FC dethroned them last season.

“Yes, we all want the league to start because the players are hungry for football and they are looking forward to the season.

“As a team, our aim is to regain our first place and win the league because there was many things that destructed us last season but we are working on it.

“All we want to to hear now is the news that football will eventually start this season,” Gure said.

Veteran footballer and coach Mamie Kasaona has also expressed desire to see the women’s Super League start.

Kasaona believes women still have much to offer to the development of football in the country.

“As a former footballer, I know what it means for the players to be playing regular football.

“There are plenty of young girls whose lives have been changed due to the beautiful game.

“This is the reason why we hope that FNB will continue with the sponsorship,” Kasaona remarked.
