The Windhoek Gymnasium netball courts were electric with excitement yesterday as the 2025 Capricorn Group Schools Netball League finals came to a close. Windhoek High School (WHS) emerged victorious in the U/19 category, securing their third consecutive league title in a gripping final against Windhoek Gymnasium.
The highly anticipated showdown between two of Khomas Region’s netball giants ended in celebration for WHS, who demonstrated composure, teamwork, and championship experience. With this victory, WHS reaffirmed their dominance in the league and etched their name into Namibian schools sports history.
Hope Kazondovi, a standout player from WHS, shared her joy and pride after the final whistle. “Winning this game means so much to us, not just because of today, but because of everything we’ve built over the past three years. Reaching the finals three times and winning all of them is a dream come true,” she said. “I’m grateful for my team, our coaches, and the support we’ve received.”
Kazondovi’s leadership and consistency have been central to WHS’s unbeaten finals streak since 2023, making her a symbol of determination for young athletes across the country.
WHS U/19 coach, Corné van der Walt, expressed her gratitude and excitement after the victory. “I am so proud and overwhelmed by the win. We worked hard and went through a few injuries, but I’m glad the girls fought through,” she said.
The Super League results saw WHS take gold in the U/19 category, with Windhoek Gymnasium earning silver and Windhoek Afrikaanse Privaat Skool (WAP) securing bronze. WHS also achieved podium finishes in the U/14, U/15, and U/17 categories, further underlining the school’s depth of talent and strength of its netball programme.
Hosted by the Namibia Schools Sport Union (NSSU) and proudly sponsored by Capricorn Group, the finals drew teams from multiple regions, with Khomas continuing to dominate in most age groups.
As the curtain falls on this year’s league, the spotlight shines brightly on WHS and its legacy, setting the stage for future stars like Kazondovi to inspire the next generation of champions.
