Namibia’s archery golden boy, Burton Weakley, was recently selected to captain the African team alongside Bianca Riley of South Africa at the Africa Genesis Archery (AGA) World Tournament.

Scheduled for 24 to 26 July in Walvis Bay, the tournament is expecting participation of around 300 archers from the host country, Canada, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Zambia and Botswana.

The archers were selected by the federation committee following their outstanding performance at last year’s AGA Championships in August and their continued excellence at national level in their respective countries.

Burton, who was dubbed the golden boy after winning nationals to become AGA Namibia’s reigning champion alongside golden girl Teresa Kasomba, was all smiles at the news that he was entrusted to lead the African team to glory.

“It’s an honour to have the privilege of captaining the African team at this prestigious tournament with Bianca. I can’t wait to shoot alongside the best archers in Africa and work together to win the competition,” he said.

He added that he is also looking forward to making lasting memories at the tournament. “Thank you to the committee for choosing me. I can’t wait to see everyone!”

Bianca was equally honoured at the opportunity. “It is a privilege to lead this very talented team and my greatest achievement,” she remarked.

On their Facebook page, AGA Namibia wrote: “Both archers are well-behaved, demonstrate excellent leadership qualities and are respected by fellow archers and adults. We are super proud of you!”
