Wanderers celebrates win over Kudus

As expected, competition is still fierce in the JSB Gold Cup between the Namibia Rugby Union’s top six clubs from the NRU premier league that was completed in the first half of the season.
FNB Wanderers showed determination defending their honour at their home field in Pionierspark on Saturday, winning 50-38 against FNB Kudus to take a certain degree of revenge for the NRU premier league final loss in early June.
Wanderers scored four converted tries for a 28-0 lead before the Walvis Bay team got their first reply in the match. The Windhoek team showed enterprise on attack, while the coastal visitors were penalised a lot by referee Oscar Lambert.
Wanderers secured full log points for the second match in a row by scoring seven tries, credited to wing Jurgen Meyer (2), flank André Augustyn, centres Danie van der Merwe (2) and Schalk (SW) Kuhn and replacement prop Fillipus Iyambo Tshuuya. Kuhn succeeded with five conversions and fly-half Kian Fransman landed one penalty.
Kudus settled for six tries, by hooker Jarren Koning, wing Lucio Isaacs, scrumhalf Rayshawn Shoombe, lock Carl-William Freygang, replacement wing Dolano Vries and a penalty try. Conversions were added by fullback Michael Koopman (1) and fly-half Aurelio Plato (2).
• At Rehoboth, FNB Grootfontein staked their claim with a 34-27 win against FNB Rehoboth.
Despite three yellow cards to fly-half Jahno du Plessis, flank Pieter Daan Kok and prop Tuhafeni Mayova, the northern visitors accumulated tries by Du Plessis (2), Kok, wing Lasarus Joseph and centre Franklin Busch. Busch also landed three conversions and one penalty.
Rehoboth were prevented from adding a log point –restricted to three tries, by wing Manfred Garoeb, prop Tirique Coetzee and replacement forward Alister Groenewaldt.
• At Unam Stadium, FNB University of Namibia kept their momentum despite being reduced by injuries and departures to European clubs.
Unam scored five tries in a hard-fought 33-29 win against Trustco United. For the students, fullback Cee-Jay Coetzee, wing Don Juan Beukes, locks Abrahama Ilonga and Kistings Minyoi as well as flank Rowan Jansen scored tries, of which fly-half Delron Brandt converted four.
United’s efforts also yielded five tries, by centre Keanan Januarie, wing Janfdre Esterhuyzen, nr 8 and captain JD Nel, flank Thehard Lintvelt and replacement back Christo Gresse.

At Hage Geingob, Unam Steenbokkies ran out 75-0 winners against Trustco United’s Gemsbokkies.
Fly-half Michelle Slinger landed ten conversions and also scored two tries for a 30-point haul, while other tries were racked up by fullback Ivone Kooper (2), wing Fiola Vliete, centre Elzane-Lee Basson, flank Emilyn Marais, locks Letisha Matheus and Faith Tjambari as well as replacement Taotago Afrikaner (2).
