SSFD promotion battle heats up

Namibian Correctional Services, as log leaders in the NFA’s Southern Stream First Division, maintained their winning momentum with two recent victories against DTS (4-1) and Davos (2-1).

The league pacesetters so far collected 44 points from 17 matches. They scored 48 goals and conceded 13 goals. They recorded 14 wins, two draws and suffered only one defeat.

Second-placed Blue Boys FC secured two consecutive victories at home in Swakopmund last weekend. In doing so they kept alive their slim hopes of earning the coveted promotion to the Debmarine Namibian Premier League.

Blue Boys’ chairperson, Elton Katangolo, expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance.

“These results are of huge importance to us with only five fixtures remaining, Continued dedication will be required throughout the closing stages until the final whistle of the season.”

Blue Boys gathered 41 points and are three points adrift from log leaders NCS. The coastal team scored 36 goals and conceded 14, on their way to registering 13 wins, two draws and one defeat.

Coastal neighbour Eleven Arrows scored a 4-0 win over Black Africa and recorded a 1-1 draw against O&L Ramblers last weekend.

Arrows is placed third on the log with 34 points from 10 wins, four draws and three defeats. They scored 39 goals and conceded 18 goals.

“We slipped up. The situation is very stressful. We are playing good football and creating chances, but our guys are not putting the ball in the back of the net. We played a friendly against SFC and worked on this aspect. There are still five matches left and we will aim to collect maximum points,” commented Rudolf Bester, the coach of Eleven Arrows.

Round 18, Saturday: Try Again v Oranjemund at S. Stephanus Stadium (15:00). O&L Ramblers v Black Africa at Ramblers Stadium (15:00). Mariental Sport Club v Dates Eleven at Mariental Stadium (14:30). Log leaders Namibian Correctional Services v Latinos at Mariental Stadium (17:00).

Round 19, Saturday at DTS Stadium: Blue Boys v Davos (13:30) and Eleven Arrows v DTS (15:00).

Round 20, Sunday: Davos v Eleven Arrows (10:00) and DTS v Blue Boys (12:30) at DTS Stadium.
