SFC hosts fourth fistball tournament as Namibia eyes U18 World Cup

The Swakopmund Sports Club (SFC) hosted the fourth tournament of the season under the Fistball Association of Namibia’s calendar on Saturday, drawing nine teams across three divisions and delivering a day of high-level competition and development play.In the under-18 division, SFC B claimed first place, ahead of SKW A in second and Cohen FC in third. The A category was won by Cohen FC 1, with SFC 1 taking second place and SKW 1 and Cohen FC 2 sharing third. SKW 3 topped the B category, followed by SKW 2 in second and SFC 2 in third.SFC’s Christian Knobloch said the event benefitted from good weather and strong performances, particularly in the A category. “The semifinal between SFC 1 and SKW 1 was a very close match and evenly contested, but also the final between SFC 1 and Cohen FC 1 was a highlight of the day,” he said.He noted that SFC’s A category team is largely made up of under-18 players who represented Namibia at last year’s World Championships in Chile, and who are now competing strongly against seasoned national team players. In the B category, SFC fielded development squads, giving newer players valuable match experience.One challenge on the day was the condition of the grass pitch at the SFC grounds, which Knobloch described as “very uneven” and not ideal for quality play.Unlike in past years, the 2025 season is being contested as a series of monthly tournaments rather than a league. The next event will be hosted by Cohen FC in Windhoek on 13 September, followed by another in October and a final in November. A full league season is expected to return in February 2026.Knobloch added that the tournament weekend also served as preparation for Namibia’s U18 boys’ and women’s squads, who trained on Sunday. The boys’ team is set to compete at the U18 World Cup in Switzerland in July 2026. “We’ve got pretty good young talent. There’s still a lot of work ahead for the coaches, but I believe we will be able to send a very good team,” he said.
