Rundu Chiefs eye league title after promotion return

After years in the football wilderness, Rundu Chiefs are back in Namibia’s top flight, and their chairman, Agripa Haindongo, says the club is determined to build a squad that will not just survive, but challenge for the league title.
Speaking during the club’s awards ceremony in Rundu on Saturday, Haindongo highlighted the collective spirit that brought the team this far, thanking players, technical staff, supporters, and sponsors. “We’re not only building a competitive football team but a strong and lasting legacy,” he said.
The 2024/25 season marked a remarkable turnaround for the Chiefs, who were relegated from the Premier League in 2017/18 after finishing 15th on the log.
Years of instability followed, with the club nearly vanishing from competitive football. But Haindongo’s takeover in 2023 was a turning point.
“I made sure the club was registered professionally and brought in Premier League players to help push for promotion,” he noted.
His personal investment revived the club, culminating in their promotion to the 2025/26 top-tier campaign.
Saturday’s event also celebrated standout performances. Striker Benson Kaluba dominated the evening, scooping both the Player of the Season and Top Goal Scorer awards after netting 15 goals. Other accolades went to:
Best Defender: Gerson Inodhimbwa Paulus
Best Midfielder: Shaun Siyoka
Best Attacking Midfielder: Donaldson Ignatius
Best Goalkeeper: Andrew Simon
Best Young Player: Simon Mpasi
Most Disciplined Player: Tauno Shindinge
Haindongo said building a squad capable of contending for the league title is now the club’s mission.
“This journey is far from over,” he said. “With all of you by our side, the future looks very bright.”
