Record-breaking turnout at AGA Namibia’s second shoot

African Genesis Archery (AGA) Namibia held its second shoot of the year at Windhoek Afrikaans Private School (WAP)’s Affies Park in Pionierspark last weekend.The event saw a record-breaking turnout of 174 archers – the largest AGA Namibia competition to date – who showcased remarkable accuracy in the Bull’s Eye and Animal Round disciplines.Bull’s Eye Round (max 900 score)In the senior boy’s category, Werner Goseb (Community Hope School) secured the top spot with a dominant 861 points. Jason Koch from Danie Joubert Combined School was close behind with 851, while Oliver Rothkegel from Central Elite Archery Club narrowly finished third with 850.The senior girls’ section saw Community Hope School’s Teresa Kasomba lead with an 857 score. Anielka Hayward from Danie Joubert Combined School followed with 847, while Taylieschen Scott from Windhoek High School rounded out the podium with 844.In the junior boys’ section, Willem van der Merwe from WAP claimed victory with a solid 840. Luka van Vuuren from Moria Private School secured second place with 836 points, with Jandré Coetzee (Berg-Op Academy) getting third place with 810.Junior girls’ Amelia von Wielligh of Berg-Op Academy emerged victorious with 808, ahead of St. Paul’s College’s Ariadne van Wyk (769) and Community Hope School’s Donaline Pieterson (760).Animal Round (max 300)Oliver Rothkegel from Central Elite Archery Club dominated the senior boys’ section with a near-perfect 291 score. Windhoek High School’s Burton Weakley followed with 281, while Darian Zander Mouton of Walvis Bay Private School (WBPS) placed third with 280.Senior girls’ Kasomba added another victory to her name with a 282-point finish. Hayward continued her consistent form with 277, while Petro Mostert from Berg-Op Academy secured third place (272). In the junior boys’ section, Van der Merwe once again took the top spot with 279, just ahead of Van Vuuren (275). Central Elite Archery Club’s Björn Bergmann claimed third place with 267.Van Wyk dominated the junior girls’ section with 256, followed by Von Wielligh (252) and Avihe Herunga from Danie Joubert Combined School (251).Bull’s Eye and Animal Round (max 1200)In the senior boys’ section, Rothkegel’s claimed the overall title with a combined score of 1141. Koch followed closely as the runner-up with 1129, while Duan Kruger of Roots Gymnasium secured his first podium finish as the second runner-up with 1127.Senior girls’ Kasomba completed a flawless competition with a combined 1139 score to clinch the overall title. Hayward finished second with 1124 and Mostert third with 1102.Junior boys’ Van der Merwe completed his hat-trick of wins with a combined 1119. Van Vuuren pushed him all the way, finishing just eight points behind on 1111, while Coetzee rounded out the podium with 1075.In the junior girls’ section, Von Wielligh emerged as the champion with 1060, followed by Van Wyk (1025) and Herunga (988).Cubs winnersIn the Cubs boys’ category, Louw Rousseau from WAP delivered an outstanding performance to claim victory. Joshua van Rooyen from Moria Private School finished second, while Isaiah from Central Elite Archery Club (CEAC) took third.The Cubs girls’ category had only two competitors, with CEAC’s Talia Thatcher taking the win over Olivia Sakeus from Windhoek Christian Academy.AAG Bull’s Eye and 3D RoundIn the Adult Archery Generation (AAG) ladies’ category, Marionette de Waal led the charge with an 846 score, followed by Alyssa van Zijl (841) and Charne Coetzee (840).The men’s division saw Tristan Jacobs top the leaderboard with a dominant 850, ahead of Berend Blom (832) and Johan Raes (824).AGA Namibia president Poenie Weakley highlighted the emergence of some new talent, adding excitement to team selection for July’s World Archery tournament in Walvis Bay. “We expect participation from Canada, Zambia, Zimbabwe, South Africa, and Botswana,” he said.Tournament director Madelyn Kruger thanked Anel Brink from King Cues for sponsoring and photographing the event, as well as Paul van der Merwe and his team for ensuring proper equipment.
