Paulus and Haitope shine at record-breaking Nedbank Citi Dash

Windhoek’s Independence Avenue came alive yesterday morning as thousands of runners descended on the city for the annual Nedbank Citi Dash – an event that continues to grow in scale and prestige. More than 2,500 participants lined up across multiple categories, from elite athletes to first-time runners, juniors and senior citizens, making this year’s race one of the most inclusive and best organised yet.Nedbank Namibia’s Communications and PR Manager, Selma Kaulinge, praised the event’s atmosphere and organisation. “It was a beautiful morning. Independence was completely closed so you felt like you were really running. It was safe, it was flat with a couple of hills, and it was a good race. The race also showcased Nedbank’s commitment to health and inclusivity. “We’ve had kids as young as six and senior citizens taking part. Running is an inclusive sport , all you need to do is stand up and run. ” she said after completing her first 10km.Head of Marketing and Communications at Nedbank Namibia, Gernot de Klerk, echoed those sentiments. “It’s been a fantastic turnout. We thought moving the race from its traditional home might pose challenges but the energy, the vibe, and the atmosphere have been fantastic. The Nedbank Citi Dash, with the support of the organisers, has set a new benchmark for races of this kind,” he said.For the elite athletes, the stakes have never been higher. With over N$200,000 in prize money on the line, it remains Namibia’s most lucrative 10km road race. Whether you’re a seasoned elite or an emerging talent ready to make a name, the dash to the finish line just got a lot more rewarding.Lavinia Haitope, speaking after her win in the women’s elite category, thanked her coach and training partners for their support. “It was not easy but I made it. This year I just trained harder,” she said.
