When the league kicked off, few would have predicted that King Kauluma (KK) Palace would emerge as one of the strongest contenders this season. The team has started brightly and currently leads the Namibia Premier League table.
The northern outfit beat Mighty Gunners by a solid goal in Otjiwarongo, which lifted them to first place on Sunday, before Life Fighters defeated Eshoke Chula Chula 3-1 in the same town.
In Windhoek, Tigers FC and Bucks Buccaneers played to a 1-1 draw, leaving the historic Tigers side in the relegation zone. Ongos FC were held by Julinho Sporting, with both teams ending the match goalless.
In Walvis Bay, Eleven Arrows earned a 2-1 victory over Khomas Nampol, while defending champions African Stars drew 1-1 against Blue Waters.
The match between Okahandja United and Young African ended dramatically after a fight broke out between the two teams.
KK Palace now lead the standings on 16 points. African Stars follow on 14, with Mighty Gunners dropping to third place on 13 points.
Kanalelo promises improvement
Ongos’ new recruit, Ronny Kanalelo, said he is determined to lift the team to a higher level.
“I would have been happy to win all the matches, but we did not manage. It can be disappointing at times. We just hope that we can do better in the future. I am confident the team will do well.
“There are important players on the team, and we hope that we will challenge for the title,” Kanalelo said.
Gunners aim to stay in the race
Mighty Gunners, who surrendered their top spot over the weekend, still believe they can push for the title.
Coach Leonard Nambandi maintained that his side remains competitive and capable of winning the league.
“I think everyone can tell that we are much better this season and can do well. The league title race will not be an easy one, but we are confident that we can put other teams under pressure,” Nambandi said.
