Mendozer Investments CC will host the Otjiwarongo Sports Bonanza from 21 to 23 August at Mokati Stadium, bringing together sport, music, entrepreneurship and community development.

The three-day event will offer N$45 000 in prize money across football, netball and volleyball, while creating a platform for athletes, entrepreneurs, students, artists and families to participate and showcase their talents.

The Bonanza forms part of Mendozer Investments' commitment to giving back to the communities in which it operates. The company is currently halfway through a three-year Roads Authority contract involving the cleaning of rest places and road reserves.

Managing director Johannes Negumbo said the company wanted to use the milestone to engage with the community.

“We believe that one does not have to wait until they have made millions before they can start giving back,” Negumbo said. “We believe in sharing the little that we have with the community.”

Football carries the biggest prize pool at N$30 000, with N$15 000 going to the winners, N$10 000 to the runners-up and N$2 500 each to the semi-finalists. Registration is N$500.

Netball offers N$10 000, with N$5 000 for the winners, N$3 000 for the runners-up and N$1 000 each for the semi-finalists. Registration costs N$300.

Volleyball has N$5 000 in prize money, with N$2 500 for the winners, N$1 000 for runners-up and N$750 each for the semi-finalists. Registration is N$100.

The sporting programme aims to promote teamwork, discipline, healthy lifestyles and community participation while allowing local teams to showcase their abilities.

Free exhibition platform

The event will also feature a free exhibition platform for micro, small and medium enterprises, students, aspiring entrepreneurs and innovators.

Participants will be able to showcase their products, ideas, talents and skills without conventional exhibition costs. Mendozer Investments says the initiative is intended to help people who lack the financial means to access traditional networking and exhibition opportunities.

The programme will be complemented by a major music show headlined by King Tee Dee, alongside other local artists.

Negumbo said King Tee Dee's rise from humble beginnings to becoming a recognised Namibian artist reflects the company's own journey and ambitions.

Entry will be free on Friday and Sunday, while Saturday's main music show will cost N$30.

“We want this event to belong to the people,” Negumbo said. “Whether you are coming to support your favourite team, enjoy the music, discover local businesses and talent, or simply spend time with family and friends, there should be something for everyone.”

The Bonanza will be held under the theme sport, music, unity and community.
