The JMG 66 Sports and Events Agency has announced that they will be hosting a sports Indaba in Otavi on Saturday.
The agency has drafted a letter requesting the town council to support their upcoming event.
“On behalf of JMG 66 Sports and Events Agency, I am writing to formally inform you of our upcoming Otavi Sports Indaba scheduled to take place this Saturday.
“We request the support of the Otavi Town Council (OTC) in this community-centred initiative,” the agency wrote.
The event is set to be hosted at the Khoaeb Community Hall, as it provides a central and accessible venue for all members of the town.
The Sports Indaba aims to bring together local stakeholders, sports enthusiasts, youth and community leaders to engage on key issues related to sport development, talent nurturing, infrastructure and the role of sport in community building.
“Namibia's Sixth National Development Plan (NDP6), launched in July 2025, includes a focus on sports development as part of its broader goals of promoting economic growth, inclusiveness and resilience.”
It is for these reasons that the town has shifted to focus and align closely with the objectives of the “greater Otavi” dream initiative, which has given rise to Otavi Sports Indaba.
Organisers believe that the initiative will be of great benefit to the town and its residents, aligning with the broader objectives of community upliftment and social cohesion.
One of the organisers Jefta Gaoab explained that they have always wanted to improve sports in the town and believe that things such as the Indaba will come in handy towards the town.
He is inviting people from the town and the country at large to join them at the event.
“Community members are invited to come in numbers and witness this big event.
“There are plenty of opportunities for sports to grow and we know the power it holds,” Gaoab said.
