Oryx Esports Namibia and Direct Information Computer Technologies (DICT) have partnered to host their first free-to-play community esports tournament in Windhoek’s Prosperita this Saturday.

Hosted at the DICT office, the tournament is open to all gaming prodigies looking to sign up and put their strategic skills to the test against some of the country’s top players in Tekken 8 and EA Sports FC 25.

The top three players will walk away with cash prizes, while random draws will be held for an Oryx Esports Namibia shirt and other goodies from DICT.

The organisers said the partnership between IT company DICT and Windhoek’s trailblazing esports club, Oryx Esports Namibia, aims to bring esports closer to the people and nurture a thriving local gaming community.

A gateway to formal events

Speaking to Sport Wrap about the event, one of the organisers, Ayaka Abrahams, said Saturday’s tournament will be less strict than official high-standard events and will act as a gateway for players preparing to enter more formal competitive structures.

“We welcome one and all, especially up-and-coming players, with hopes to get more people involved in the sport,” she said.

With a mix of old and new players expected, organisers hope to provide a learning platform for locals to gain experience in formal tournaments while benchmarking their skills against seasoned competitors.

“The partnership between DICT and Oryx Esports Namibia is a showcase of true community spirit, which hopes to build strong pathways through fun, competitive play with less pressure. This is a great opportunity for gamers to back up all their big talk,” she quipped.
