Ongos looks ahead to tough trip

Ongos FC coach Mervin Mbakera says the team is confident of getting results this coming weekend when they battle Okahandja United and Mighty Gunners in the Debmarine Namibia Premiership.The team will first play Okahandja United on Saturday away from home before they also travel to Outjo to face Mighty Gunners in their second match of the weekend.The match at Okahandja will be played at Nau-Aib Stadium at 16:00 on Saturday, while their fixture in Outjo is slated for 15:00 at Etoshapoort Stadium.Mbakera's men will look to improve on their performance following their 1-1 draw against Tigers FC in the opening match of the league."These are two teams we are familiar with, and we will therefore go out there to get the results."Playing away from home in double headers does have an effect on the players, but I am confident that we can go out there and produce good performances."It is early in the season, but it remains important that we get a head start and gain as many points as we can," Mbakera said.Mbakera joined Ongos FC at the end of the Debmarine Namibia 2023/24 season and has been trying to instill his philosophy in the players while also adhering to the philosophy of the club.The acquisition of former Unam FC captain Tuazuvirua Toromba, as well as prospects such as Pollen Rooi and goalkeeper Donald Boois (both from Young Brazilians), has signaled the intent of Ongos FC.The club has also bolstered their depth with the signing of experienced campaigners such as former Brave Warriors and Black Africa midfielder Immanuel Heita, from Unam FC, and Joseph Lungu, a Zambian left-back from Red Arrows FC.Ongos FC finished as runners-up to league champions African Stars during the 2023/24 season.The club won 18 of their 30 league matches while dropping points on seven occasions, with only five losses throughout the season.
