Omake Charity fun day to fund welfare and disability centre

Omake Charity Organisation is calling on businesses and the public to support its inaugural volleyball fun day, which aims to raise funds for a welfare and disability centre in Otjiwarongo.Businesses and individuals can assist by sponsoring the competition or registering teams to participate in the tournament scheduled for 10 May in the town.Established and registered in 2018, Omake Charity Organisation relies entirely on sponsors, donors and volunteers to create sustainable, positive change by empowering vulnerable individuals with opportunities to integrate into society and reach their full potential.Speaking to Sport Wrap, Omake chairperson Eddy Kgobetsi said the funding will contribute to their long-term goal of establishing a stay-in welfare centre for the homeless and disabled.“Funds from the volleyball fun day will also help us establish a soup kitchen and a counselling office, which we would like to start with as part of our short-term goal of catering to the immediate needs of the less privileged,” he said.RegistrationInterested businesses, groups of friends and families can register their teams for the 6-a-side competition, which allows two reserves, only one professional volleyball player, and a maximum of four men per team. Teams may enter more than once under the same entity.The registration fee is N$1 500 per team. The overall winners will walk away with N$4 500, along with a trophy and gold medals. Second place will receive N$3 000 and silver medals, while third place will earn N$1 500 and bronze medals.Entrance fees are N$20 for adults, N$10 for children and an additional N$10 per vehicle. The event promises exciting prizes, food and drinks for sale and live entertainment from renowned artists and a DJ.Regarding participation, Kgobetsi confirmed that the event is open to all. “We have extended the invitation to neighbouring towns such as Okakarara, Outjo, Otavi, Grootfontein and as far as Tsumeb and Khorixas. This event will also create a platform for children to have fun, as there are limited entertainment options in the town,” he remarked.Activities and leadershipKgobetsi indicated that the organisation recently expanded its network of operations to Windhoek, Oshakati and Swakopmund, with Otjiwarongo serving as the head office. The goal is to replicate its activities across all regions.“Our activities, subject to sponsorships, include but are not limited to back-to-school and winter drives, fun runs and cycling events, food hampers for the elderly and children born with cerebral palsy, soup kitchens and sanitary pad donations,” Kgobetsi noted.The organisation is governed by a patron, Piet Schrader, along with vice-chairperson Steffie Goeieman, events director Shandon Titus, treasurer Yolande Kgobetsi, logistics director Maria Petrus, marketer Katelie Stumpfe and secretary Annastasia Kamerika.
