Old Boys and Wanderers on course to the final

ATG WHS Old Boys increased their log points to 12 by thrashing unbeaten front-runners APS Samsung Wanderers by 53 runs last Saturday in Cricket Namibia’s T20 Premier League at Wanderers.Old Boys’ total of 171 for seven wickets in 20 overs came after their captain and opener JP Kotzé scored 56 runs from 35 deliveries. He smashed three fours and a whopping five sixes, scoring at a rate of 160 percent.His fellow opener, Morkel Malan, fell cheaply for only five runs (9 balls), while Karl Birkenstock got number three Malan Kruger out for 14 (3x4, 12 b).However, Gerhard Erasmus walked in at number four with fire and determination. Erasmus clobbered a blistering 64 runs off 38 deliveries. He whacked nine balls to the boundary for six fours and three sixes, scoring at 168.42 percent and putting his fifty on the board from only 33 balls. The spinner PD Blignaut was Wanderers’ most successful bowler with two wickets for 18 in three overs. Jan-Izak de Villiers took 2/41 in 4 overs, but was rather expensive at 10.25 per over. Karl Birkenstock, JC Balt and Bernard Scholtz took one wicket apiece. With disciplined precision, Old Boys’ bowlers did not allow the host team’s batsmen to establish themselves, as the red team was restricted to 118/9. JC Balt (18 runs), Lo-han Louwrens (11), captain Michau du Preez (16), Karl Birkenstock (12) and Lu-Hendro de Waal were the only batters that could manage double figures before getting out.Old Boys’ bowlers Dylan Leicher (3/24 in 4), Tangeni Lungameni (2/20 in 4), Shaun Fouché (2/24 in 4), Jack Brassell (1/12 in 3), Zhivago Groenewald (1/22 in 4) and Gerhard Erasmus (0/5 in 1) turned the run supply down for Wanderers. Leicher ended the threat of JJ Smit when he bowled him for 8 off 20 balls, with Du Preez and Bernard Scholtz (0) his other scalps.Erasmus, Namibia’s national team captain, has been signed by the Kathmandu Ghurkas to play in the inaugural Nepal Premier League T20 series to be held from 30 November to 21 December.The final of Cricket Namibia’s T20 premier league is scheduled for 1 December.United beat CCDIn the afternoon match, Trustco United bagged their first four league points for the season, reaching 144/6 after CCD Tigers had sent them in to bat first.Gerhard Janse van Rensburg opened the batting for United and top-scored with 38 off 43 balls (2x6). His opening partnership with Erik Lintvelt (28 off 30 b, 3x4) delivered 68 runs in 11 overs. Zane Green (19 runs), Handré Klazinga (17), Steph Fourie (12) and Tatenda Sithole (14) also helped the scoreboard ticking over.Mauritius Ngupita (2/13 in 4) lead the Philistines’ bowling attack with excellent bowling. Simon Shikongo (1/24 in 4), Junior Kariata (1/26 in 3) and Salomon Nuuyoma (1/33 in 3) assisted as well.In CCD's reply of 131/8 in 20 overs, Joshuan Julius (32 off 22 b, 4x4) and Simon Shikongo (28 off 26 b, 3x4, 1x6) both had good moments with the bat. However, Ryan Moffett (11) was the only other Tigers batsman to reach double figures in a middle-order collapse until number eight and nine, Junior Kariata (16 not out off 15 b, 1x4) and Salomon Nuuyoma (19 off 15 b, 2x4, 1x6) came together.
