‘Phenomenal talent’
Reflecting on the event, one of the organisers, Nadine Jaeger – an International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) Brevet judge – described it as a resounding success and praised the gymnasts for showcasing their talent with determination.
“These [athletes] are so talented and improve every year. It’s really wonderful to see. Some of our standout moments were our senior gymnasts, including our most senior athlete, Jared Isaacs, who was phenomenal to watch [as he stormed to a national title performance],” she said.
“As the NGF technical committee for the trampoline and tumbling section, we are extremely proud of all the gymnasts who took part across all three disciplines. Their talent is phenomenal.”
Served as trials for Region 5 tournament
Jaeger further noted that the tournament doubled as final trials for the upcoming Region 5 Gymnastics Tournament, which the country is set to host from 7 to 14 December in Windhoek.
“We have fielded a strong team and are very excited to see how they will do against other countries. This is the first time in a very long time that we will be competing against South Africa and many neighbouring countries,” she said.
Countries that have confirmed their participation include South Africa, Zimbabwe, Lesotho, Botswana, Angola, Mozambique and Zambia.
The NGF’s trampoline and tumbling sections have fielded FIG-certified Brevet judges Jaeger, Thalia Loveira and Carané van Zyl to adjudicate the showpiece, alongside Brevet candidate Vesselin Kostin.
The country will field 11 athletes in trampoline, 15 in double mini-trampoline, 11 in mini-trampoline and 14 in tumbling, all under the guidance of team manager Charlize van Zyl.
The event will be sponsored by Pupkewitz Foundation, Ark Trading Namibia and Lady Pohamba Pharmacy.
Organisers also extended gratitude to the gymnasts’ accommodations at City Lodge Hotel, Innibos Guesthouse and Mövenpick Hotel Windhoek.
