New national coach expected from Germany
Fistball
Nick Trinemeier of Germany, a former World Championship, European Cup and World Games winner, will land in Namibia on Saturday.
Trinemeier was appointed men’s national coach by the Fistball Association of Namibia and is tasked with successfully preparing the men's team for the next World Championship in 2027.
The introduction of the three-time World Championship winner with Germany (2015, 2019 and 2023) follows the Namibian men's struggles to be competitive at the most recent World Championship in 2023 in Germany, where they lost the tenth-place playoff 3-1 to the USA.
Fistball Namibia spokesperson Helmo Minz said: “Nick will lead a training camp in Windhoek on Sunday, as well as training sessions the following week in Swakopmund and Windhoek.
“Jessica Seitz, a German national women’s player who lives in Switzerland, will also lead a training camp for the U18 girls and women on Sunday.”
Tournament in Olympia
Fistball enthusiasts can look forward to yet another exciting club tournament set to be held this coming Saturday from 08:30 at the Cohen FC in Olympia.
There will be two adult categories, while the event will also serve as an opportunity for the young ones to showcase their skills.
The adults will compete in the A and B categories, while the U13 and U18 youth categories will also compete in their respective age categories.
The most recent tournament was three months ago, with the international Old Crocks tournament held in the meantime.
Cohen 1 won the A category in Swakopmund, while local favourite SFC III won the B category.
Minz said: “With two teams each from Cohen FC, SFC and SKW the dominant host team of recent years, Cohen 1, is once again considered to have a good chance of winning the A category among the six teams.
“It remains to be seen how SKW will fare, given that they have been struggling with several absentees.
“This presents an opportunity for the young SFC 1 team, all of whom participated in the Youth World Championship in Chile last year.”
Category B will feature three teams from SKW and one team each from SFC and Cohen, while the under-18 category will see Cohen playing against two teams from the Green-and-Whites, SKW.
In the under-13 youth category, a Cohen team and two SKW teams will also compete for the title.
