New chapter for Nyambe
After 11 years at Ewood Park, the 24-year-old Namibian international footballer Ryan Nyambe has teamed up with the newly promoted English second-tier outfit Wigan Athletic Football Club on a one-year contract.
Nyambe joined the Blackburn Rovers at 13 and made his debut at the age of 17. He went on to successfully play close to 200 first-team matches for the FA Cup winners.
The Namibian thanked the club, his teammates and fans on social media.
“Thank you Rovers for an amazing 11 years. Thank you to the staff for helping me become the person and footballer I am today. I have enjoyed a very special journey at an amazing club that will always have a special place in my heart.
“I will be forever grateful for the opportunity to have met and played with some great players that became family to me. Lastly, thank you to the fans that have been a big part of my journey.”
New beginning
He further said that he is looking forward to the challenge.
“First of all, I had a sit down with the manager, Liam Richardson. and he came across as a family man. I have seen all the players he has worked with and he has improved them so much. I think he can help me so much with my game. The team’s style of play is also quite unique so am looking forward to that.”
He also added that the Championship is a very hard league, but that he has played so many games because he tries to do things properly.
“It’s going to be a difficult season, but as long as we do everything right, I think we have a good chance,” he said.
Nyambe is a versatile and athletic defender who has represented Namibia in the African Cup of nations and World Cup qualifiers during the past three years, playing seven matches in total.
