NamPower wins back-to-back Fritz Iindongo tourney titles

NamPower has once again proved to be the team to beat in the Fritz Iindongo Sitting Volleyball Tournament, after storming to their second consecutive title.They claimed the floating trophy and gold medals, ahead of silver medallists The Inceptors in second place and debutants Central Volleyball Association (CVA) in third, who took bronze.Recently held at the University of Namibia (Unam) Gym Hall in the capital, the tournament was inaugurated last year to honour the legacy of the late Fritz Johannes Iindongo.Iindongo was a volleyball enthusiast whose core values were deeply rooted in inclusivity, mutual respect, teamwork and sportsmanship.His family hosts the tournament to empower individuals with disabilities and offer them a platform to showcase their talent, while fostering a sense of belonging through sitting volleyball.This year’s edition featured six teams, one more than last year, with Afrocat, Revivals and Vipers battling it out alongside the top three teams in the country’s trailblazing sport.Record proceeds raisedOne of the event’s organisers, Hendrina Iindongo, lauded the tournament’s growth and increased participation from the debutants.She also pointed out that the teams were well-organised and displayed heightened engagement and stronger collaboration, laying a crucial foundation for continued success.“As organisers, we are thrilled with the overall success of this year’s tournament. Despite fewer players from the northern parts of the country, the increased participation allowed us to raise more proceeds than at the inaugural edition, benefiting our partners, the National Federation of People with Disabilities in Namibia (NFPDN),” said Hendrina.She further highlighted the combination of sitting volleyball with standing volleyball in one venue on the same day, during the replayed round three MTC Volleyball National League match between Namibian Defence Force (NDF) Raptors and Namibian Correctional Service (NCS), which ended in a tight 3-2 in favour of NCS.“Combining these two events fostered greater inclusivity and engagement. The edition was packed with memorable highlights.“We are committed to elevating sitting volleyball in our community through our continued training sessions every Friday at Grysblok After School Centre.
