Namibia wins three medals at African Champs

Namibia’s boccia team, which recently represented the country at the Cairo 2025 World Boccia African Regional Championships in Egypt, won three bronze medals in various individual disciplines at the tournament.The competition featured athletes from South Africa, Egypt, Tunisia and Namibia.The first medal was secured by team captain Johannes Kahima, competing in the BC2 classification, who was awarded alongside second-placed Mohaned Amin of Egypt and overall winner Achraf Tayahi of Tunisia.Prince Namundyebo (BC1) was awarded alongside second runner-up Kabemba Tshilunga of South Africa and overall winner Amen Bemri of Tunisia.Aune Amutenya (BC4) was awarded alongside second-placed Naledi Nhlapo of South Africa and overall winner Hanaa Elfar of Egypt.Coached by Selma Kandali Ndaitwah, the team also included debutant Max Isak (BC2), who gained valuable experience at his first international outing.Speaking to this publication, Ndaitwah said she is thrilled with the players’ performances and acknowledged the achievements as a testament to their hard work, dedication and perseverance.“I am proud to have witnessed our athletes shine on the African stage. They carried themselves and Namibia well. I am thankful for their commitment, teamwork, and proud to be part of their journey,” she said.She confirmed that the athletes gained valuable exposure, which has boosted their confidence and passion for the sport.In need of more athletesNdaitwah stressed that this is only the beginning for boccia in the country, noting that the team is currently looking for more athletes to join the sport.“I know they are out there. This sport, for individuals with cerebral palsy, needs to be known in the country. I am excited to see what the future holds for our boccia team and the impact the athletes will make in the sport,” she said.She further extended gratitude to the team’s sponsors who made the trip possible, its supporters, and the management who ensured everything went smoothly.“Thank you for believing in us and providing the necessary resources.
