World Fitness Federation (WFF) Namibia’s Pedro Mututo and Tshipanda Mbuyi secured gold and silver medals, respectively, at the recently concluded WFF African Championship held in Lusaka, Zambia.

Mututo clinched the gold and trophy in the men’s sport model category, while Mbuyi finished second in the men’s fitness bodybuilding category. They were part of the Namibian contingent that also included Venomusheko Winfriend, who achieved sixth place in the men’s Bermuda category.

The trio was accompanied by WFF Namibia president Evaristor Gylgrister, who was also honoured with a gold medal at the event.

Namibia competed against seven other countries, including hosts Zambia, Zimbabwe, Malawi, South Africa, Tanzania, Cameroon and Ghana. The championship, organised by WFF Zambia president Peter Chanda, brought together over 100 athletes to showcase some of Africa’s finest bodybuilding talent.

A moment of pride for Namibia

Reflecting on the achievement, president Gylgrister extended gratitude to Namibian Ports Authority (Namport) for sponsoring the team to the event.

“It was such a privilege to lead the athletes to this prestigious championship. Their performances were nothing short of exceptional. Their gold and silver medals, along with the trophy and certificate, reflect their dedication and hard work,” he said.

He described the feat as a moment of pride for the country, noting that despite the men’s Bermuda category being highly competitive, Winfriend represented Namibia with determination and grace.

“He left a lasting impression. I am immensely proud of our athletes. Their commitment, discipline and sportsmanship have brought honour to Namibia. We waved our flag with pride throughout the event,” added Gylgrister.

Sights set on Mr Universe

Following their success in Zambia, the team now has its sights set on the Mr Universe competition, scheduled to be held in Cameroon in June next year.

“This is a call to action for Namibian bodybuilders to join us on this journey and for the community to rally behind these athletes. Your support is crucial in helping them prepare and compete on the global stage.

“Together, we can continue to elevate Namibia’s presence in the world of bodybuilding and inspire future generations,” he remarked.

“None of this would have been possible without the unwavering support of Namport, whose sponsorship enabled our participation. Their commitment to fostering athletic talent and promoting Namibia internationally is deeply appreciated

“I also extend my heartfelt gratitude to WFF Zambia president Peter Chanda and his team for organising such a well-executed and memorable event.”
