The MTC Nestor Sunshine Boxing Academy has announced its upcoming "Tribute to His Excellency Dr Sam Shafishuna Nujoma Boxing Bonanza", scheduled to take place on 16 or 23 May 2026 at either Windhoek Show Grounds or Olufuko Centre.
In partnership with the Sam Nujoma Foundation, the boxing bonanza aims to celebrate the enduring legacy of a figure who has contributed significantly to Namibia sports, particularly boxing.
“Our founding father Dr Sam Nujoma has played an instrumental role as a freedom fighter, leading the fight against oppression and colonialism imposed by white South Africa. His dedication to our nation transcended the battlefield as he inspired our youth to liberate themselves through education, sports, and hard work.
“Dr Nujoma emphasized the importance of representation, encouraging Namibian athletes to participate in prestigious events such as the African Games, the Olympic Games, and the Commonwealth Games,” Tobias said.
"Our goal is to secure opportunities for our boxers to compete for a world championship, following our history of producing champions through this very platform. We owe this legacy to influential figures like Dr Sam Shafishuna Nujoma, who recognised Namibia's potential.
"The academy would like to emphasize that the Dr Sam Shafishuna Nujoma Boxing Bonanza will become an annual event. This initiative serves to pay tribute to our Founding Father and acknowledge his contributions to our nation.
“We urge all leaders and members of the business community to support this event in any capacity, whether financially or in kind. We would also like to express our gratitude to our main sponsors MTC, and co-sponsor PstBet, for their continued support and investment in the sport."
