The Namibia Secondary Schools Rugby (NSSR) U19 Super League delivered another thrilling round of action over the weekend, with results tightening the battle for a top-four finish as the league moves closer to the playoffs.

The OK Moria Bears remain the team to beat after a commanding 64–3 win over De Duinesig at their Doringlaagte field in Outjo.

The unbeaten leaders have now recorded five consecutive victories, boasting the league’s strongest defence and attack as they charge towards a semi-final spot.

Moria’s ten tries were scored by wing Drikus Maartens (4), flank Benjamin Mostert (2), nr 8 Armand Esterhuizen (2), centre Jano Erasmus and fullback Franko Engelbrecht. Conversions were added by centre Bertus Narib (3), scrumhalf Durand Louw (2) and backline replacement Wynand Olivier (2).

Moria coach Pieter Willem Esterhuizen said his team dominated in the tight exchanges and were disciplined in their planned pattern to create space and time to put their wings away, while also shutting out De Duinesig with solid defence.

De Duinesig coach Karl Cookson says their team selection was disrupted by absences due to a sevens tour to South Africa, but the exposure was of value to the substitutions and they came through the match without injuries.

Flyhalf Sergio Pamplin (one penalty) was their only try scorers, while De Duinesig expects to be back at full strength when they next take on Elnatan in two weeks’ time.

Kudu Bulls pass fifty

In a featured match at FNB Vegkop Stadium, broadcast live on NTV and Oneuptwo, title holders Samsung Windhoek High School (WHS) outclassed InSpares Pro-Ed Akademie 61–18, extending their perfect record and keeping pressure on Moria at the summit of the log.

Tsumeb stay on course

Compack Tsumeb Gymnasium also maintained their challenge for a top-two finish with a hard-fought 24–13 win over Autohaus Windhoek Affies in Tsumeb.

Tsumeb’s try scorers were flyhalf Pedri Lacante, lock Jaun van Wyk, hooker and captain Pieter Potgieter as well as fullback Grant Conradie.Conversions were added by Conradie and Charl Cilliers.

Tsumeb coach Wouter Niehaus says it was a physical match with discipline issues and yellow cards on both sides, which were well handled by the referee.

“We are thankful to be able to add bonus points on our home field, since we were playing without six absent players through illness and injuries.”

Gymnasium overcome WBPS

At Walvis Bay, King Price Windhoek Gymnasium bounced back in style, defeating Namib Diesel Walvis Bay Private School 34–15 at Naartjie Park to stay in the hunt for a playoff berth.

For Windhoek Gymnasium, locks Curnal Beukes and Buhlem Oelofsen, nr 8 and captain Vincent Scholtz and right wing Pieter-Stephann Stassen scored tries, while centre JD Jankowitz succeeded with four conversions and two penalties.

With only a few rounds left before the knockout stages, the battle for the top four is heating up, with Moria leading the pack, WHS and Tsumeb closely behind, and Windhoek Gymnasium also well in contention.

The captains reflected on a tough but rewarding weekend of rugby. Vincent Scholtz, captain of Windhoek Gymnasium, admitted to a slow start, but praised his side’s determination.

“It was a fairly tight game in the first half; we struggled to find our rhythm and execute the structures we trained for. It wasn’t our best performance compared to previous games, but there were many positives to take forward. I’m looking forward to the next game in the league," national schools team captain Scholtz said.

Herman Lombard, captain of Walvis Bay Private School, expressed pride in his team’s fight despite the result: "Yes, we lost and I’ll own up to that. But I’m proud we got the chance to play. Congratulations to Windhoek Gymnasium. We’ll face them again and do better next time.”
