Late penalty hands Young African the win
Young African FC on Saturday defeated Civics 2-1 at the Unam Stadium.
Both teams were in need of maximum points as the second round of the Debmarine Namibia Premiership intensifies.
Young African looked the hungrier of the two during a flat opening first half.
The Gobabis-based side had taken the lead through Tjimbauja Katuuo before halftime.
The second half saw Civics turning up the tempo in an attempt to level the scores.
Kornelius Kornelius sneaked in to grab an equalizer for Civics halfway through the second half.
The goal gave Civics a boost and they kept on pushing attackers forward in an attempt to win the match.
It was however Young African FC who got a late penalty, which Rikambura Muundjua converted.
Coach Marley Ngarizemo lauded the team for the victory.
“At this point in the season it is crucial to avoid dropping points. I am happy that the team did at least win the match away from home.
“The aim now is to get as many points as possible to move higher on the table,” Ngarizemo noted.
Civics fan Anton Witbooi expressed concern over the team’s performance.
“It is a concern that Civics has been reduced to this level and we can just hope they will eventually turn their fortunes around.
“It was really not a good game to watch because both teams made it scrappy,” Witbooi said.
