The league resumed from its mid-season break last weekend at DHPS and BAS Courts.
The Khomas Basketball Association (KBA) League will continue with its second round of fixtures this weekend at Deutsche Höhere Privatschule Windhoek (DHPS) and Basketball Artists School (BAS) Courts in Windhoek.
Having resumed from its mid-season break last weekend at the same venues, the league served up a thrilling ten-game instalment, which tipped off with Super Friday (as enthusiasts call the Friday night premier league clashes).
Super Friday saw Quality Basketball Club (QBC) catch league leaders University of Namibia (Unam) Wolves off guard, coming from behind to secure a decisive 84-77 victory.
Reacting to the win, QBC captain Samuel Waendama was all smiles, as the result marked their first win of the season against the Wolves.
“We were behind in the second quarter of the match, but the boys really came through to not only overtake Wolves but maintain the lead until the very end. We did what needed to be done. Now it’s on to the next one,” he remarked.
Super Friday’s final fixture saw Afro Stars defeat Unam Rebels 86-72. A scheduled DHPS premier league showdown between Afro Stars and QBC was postponed to a later date.
Opening match-ups
The rest of the mid-season league openers were played at the BAS Courts, where Wolves redeemed themselves with an 85-61 victory over BAS Vikings in their second match.
In the first division, log leaders Unam Penguins cruised past Plaza Warriors 86-24. A Unam derby followed, with the Raiders overpowering Cadets 79-61, while QBC’s second team outclassed Lions 73-28.
In the women’s premier league, Namibia University of Science and Technology (Nust) Dodgers edged BAS Falcons 43-36.
In second division action, Leopards dominated Unam Pacers 46-33, while Osona Braves overcame Unam Knights 57-47.
