The country’s reigning golden girl Teresa Kasomba and golden boy Burton Weakley once again shared the spotlight when they set new records at the recently concluded Community Hope School (CHS) Shoot.

Hosted by CHS, the African Genesis Archery (AGA) showpiece brought together 112 archers from across the country to the capital, putting their marksmanship skills to the test for crucial ranking points.

The event featured senior and junior archers competing in Bullseye and Animal Target Rounds with a combined maximum score of 1200.

Competing in the senior girls’ section for the hosting school, Kasomba’s new record came in the Bullseye Round, where she improved her standing 291 score out of 300 to 293.

Overall, she was crowned champion of the section with a combined score (Bullseye and Animal Rounds) of 1125.

In second place was Danie Joubert Combined School’s Anielka Hayward, who secured 1104. Hot on her heels was Pro-Ed Academy’s Danika van Zijl, rounding the podium in third with a narrow 1103.

Weakley raises the bar

Meanwhile, Windhoek High School’s (WHS) Weakley dominated the senior boys’ section with a record 1177, including a staggering 98 X’s (perfect tens) in the Bullseye Round.

Speaking on the new records, CHS shoot organiser Fortune Matambo lauded the achievements as a crucial inspiration for up-and-coming champions.

“The achievements not only highlight the growth of the archers but also reinforce the competitiveness of the country’s archery community.

“All in all, the CHS Archery Shoot was a resounding success, celebrating the talent of young archers. We look forward to continuing to inspire and promote the sport of archery,” he said.

The second and third places were a family affair, as they were both clinched by the hosting school’s Fedaliz Basson and Michael Basson, who tallied 1160 and 1145, respectively.

Junior champions

The junior section also saw outstanding action.

Pro-Ed Academy’s Charisme Rothen was crowned girls’ champion with 1065, followed by WHS’ Zeanette Jacobs in second place (1061) and CHS’ Donaline Pieterson in third with 1025.

Champion of junior boys was Jandré Coetzee of Berg-Op Academy (1114), ahead of Windhoek Afrikaans Private School’s Wandre Fest (1108) and Central Elite Archery Club’s Björn Bergmann (1068).

Archers competing outside the school system took part in the Adult Archery Group (AAG) category, shooting both Bullseye and 3D Rounds with a maximum score of 900.

Outstanding archers were as follows:

Men: 1 Cruzeiro Garobeb, 2 Paul van der Merwe, 3 Reinhold Rothkegel.

Women: 1 Charne Coetzee, 2 Christel du Plessis, 3 Angelika Mercker.
