Johburg Super Kings give Eagles some lessons

Namibia got valuable game time in their build-up to the T20 World Cup.
An opportunity to experiment with batting and bowling combinations against high quality opposition was utilised by Namibia Richelieu Eagles coach Pierre de Bruyn in two friendly matches against the Johburg Super Kings on Friday and Sunday.
The Johannesburg franchise is in preparation for the upcoming SA20 series, while Namibia took the opportunity for match time during its build-up to its third consecutive ICC T20 World Cup in June this year, to be held in West Indies and USA.
The Super Kings won the second friendly warm-up T20 match at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg by five wickets yesterday.
The Eagles batted first and reached 156/6 off 20 overs, to which the Johburg Super Kings replied with 160/5 in 16.1 overs.
Number seven Nicol Loftie-Eaton top-scored for Namibia with 31 not out off 17 balls (two fours, two sixes), while Jean du Plessis (30 off 22 balls, 3x4 1x6), Jan Frylinck (23 off 25 balls, 2x4 1x6) and Gerhard Erasmus (19 off 17, 4x4) also contributed.
As opening batsmen, Michael van Lingen got 12 off 15 balls and JP Kotzé 13 off 11 balls.
In the Kings’ innings, Leus du Plooy reached 52 not out off 27 balls, while Ben Shikongo (1/13 in 2 overs) and Nicol Loftie-Eaton (2/27 in 4) were the pick of the Namibian bowlers.
De Bruyn introduced the Du Plessis brothers Jean (opening batsman) and Arnaud (left-arm seamer), who have learnt their cricket in the SWD area and came on the scene as guest players during last year’s Richelieu T20 franchise series.
The return of left-arm fast bowler Ruben Trumpelmann from an Achilles injury and batsman JP Kotzé from international retirement were also features of the Namibian selection, while spinner Bernard Scholtz remained home for the birth of his first child.
• On Friday, the Super Kings accumulated 212/6 off their 20 overs. Donovan Ferreira top-scored, hitting seven sixes and three fours on his way to 66 off 28 balls. The Namibian innings was however cut short by rain and lightining.
• The Super Kings, featuring David Wiese as the only contracted Namibian in the series, will open their SA20 campaign Wednesday with a home match against the Sunrisers Eastern Cape (start 17:30).
