German-Namibian duos dominate DTS tourney

The DTS Liqui Fruit international beach volleyball tournament concluded last weekend at Windhoek’s DTS Beach Volleyball Arena.Germany’s Tristan Froebe and Tamu Wuest claimed the men’s title, while Namibia’s Almut Hoffmann and Rosi Hennes claimed the women’s title.In the under-19 category, Namibia’s Tumeritino Lebereki and Willem Shikongo were the standout duo in the boys’ section, while Hoffmann and Hennes dominated the girls’ division.The tournament featured 40 teams from Namibia, Angola, Botswana and Germany across four categories. These include 16 teams in the men’s section, eleven in the women’s division, seven in the boys’ U19, and six in the girls’ U19.Runners-upThe men’s runners-up were Germany’s Ole Sackermann and Julian Hikel, followed by the Angolan pair of Eduardo Muondo and Carlos Afonso in third place.In the women’s section, Kristin Gloeditzsch and Teja Lueck secured second place, while Romy and Piroschka Lueck finished third.In the boys’ U19 section, Juri Mischa and Leo Kesselmann finished as runners-up, with Roman Dainat and Stella Hamm taking third place.The girls’ U19 runners-up were Paula Ritzer and Clara van Heerden, while Lilli Marschall and Stella Hamm completed the podium in third.‘The best you can witness in the country’Speaking to Sport Wrap, tournament director Heiko Kesselmann emphasised the high level of competition, which featured top-ranked teams from Africa and Europe.“We had the four top German under 21 teams. We had Botswana’s number one team, which is also ranked third on the African continent. Then we had Angola’s top team, which is among the highest-ranked teams in Africa.“South Africa’s number one player was also here, playing alongside a Namibian youngster. The competition was top-tier beach volleyball and the best you can witness in this country,” he said.In a tournament report issued after the event, Kesselmann expressed gratitude to Liqui Fruit for sponsoring the competition, which featured a total prize pool of N$15,000 for the top-performing teams across all categories.“We appreciate their generous sponsorship.
