FNB Schools MTB League ends on a high note

The FNB Schools Mountain Bike League finals held on Saturday at IJG Trails in Windhoek saw Windhoek Gymnasium win the overall competition for primary schools and Deutsche Höhere Privatschule Windhoek (DHPS) win the overall high school competition.
The national final’s results were counted separate from the overall series results, where each rider’s best out of three events were taken into account.
The first race between the under 14, U16 and U18s saw Delsia Janse van Vuuren come first in the girls’ U16 race alongside Roger Surén who won the U16 boys’ final. Both had earlier won their leagues for 2023.
Star rider Kevin Lowe, fresh from achieving a brilliant 20th position at the UCI world championship in Scotland, came first in the boys’ U18 race, ahead of Theuns van der Westhuizen and Adrian Key who recently returned from the Commonwealth Youth Games in Trinidad and Tobago.
Angela Kamati dominated the girls’ U18 division, of which the overall league winner was Marie Louw of Gobabis Gymnasium.
Daniël Hennes led the U14 boys’ race, of which Julius Braun was the series winner, alongside Nicole Surén who reigned supreme in both the girls’ U14 series and final.
The second race of the day brought together the U12 and U10 boys and girls. Micah Chase, who had already won the series, reigned supreme again in the U12 boys’ race.
First in the U12 girls final was Qara Volschenk, who shared a joint league win with Cari van der Westhuizen.
Sion Liebenberg came first among the boys’ U10 and like his age-group mate Linn Lambert for the girls’, also claimed first place in the final league match and an overall league win.
The third race (U6 and U8 boys and girls) saw Gerhard Mans, who also won the league, take first place in the boys U6 division, alongside U6 girls league winner, Emma Cuff.
Other league and final winners were Amy Lowings (girls U8) and Ted Rust (boys U8).
