Elite RGC to host first Oribi International
Rhythmic gymnastics
The inaugural Oribi International Cup this weekend will pave the way for the African Championships in April.
This weekend is set to mark a historic moment in Namibia’s rhythmic gymnastics as the much-awaited inaugural Oribi International Cup is presented.
The competition, hosted by Elite Rhythmic Gymnastics Club, will take centre stage at the multi-purpose facility at the Windhoek Showgrounds on Friday and Saturday.
It will see gymnasts from Walvis Bay Gymnastics Club (WBGC), Windhoek Rhythmic Club (WRC), Parkies Rhythmic Gymnastics, Elite Rhythmic Gymnastics Club and South Africa’s All Starz Academy vie for top honours.
The athleticism and skills required during routines with hoops, balls, ribbons and clubs will entertain spectators as gymnasts show off what they can do.
SPONSORS NEEDED
The organiser, Eleonora Karamfilova of Elite Rhythmic Gymnastics, said their biggest challenge is the lack of funds to participate in more competitions to continuously improve the gymnasts’ skills.
They are actively seeking sponsors to fund more similar competitions, as such events are costly.
“We have organised this competition for Namibian gymnasts to get more exposure in preparation for the African Championships on 23 to 27 April in Rwanda, following the recently held national rhythmic trials. It’s a way of making it easier for our gymnasts to have extra competition at a lower cost and avoid having to go overseas, as it is an extra cost to the parents,” said Karamfilova.
“We extend our heartfelt thanks to The Barn Eatery and Conference Centre for their generous contribution towards the printing of certificates and other essentials for this competition. Your generous support is greatly appreciated!”
