Elim tourney set for August

Football fans and young players are once again looking forward to the Elim Annual Football Tournament, which will take place from August 22 to 24 at the Elim Chiefs Sports Complex in Elim, Omusati Region.The annual tournament has become a popular event in the community and aims to bring young people together through football while promoting community development and positive activities during the holiday season.It also provides an opportunity for young footballers to showcase their skills and attract the attention of coaches and teams looking for new talent to strengthen their squads.This year’s competition will focus on youth football and is open to teams from across the country, with no restrictions on participation. The registration fee is N$1 000 per team.The winners will walk away with N$8 000, a floating trophy and 15 gold medals, while the runners-up will receive N$4 000 and 15 silver medals.The teams that lose in the semi-finals will each receive N$1 500.Individual honoursIndividual players will also have an opportunity to earn recognition, with the Player of the Tournament, Best Goalkeeper and Top Goal Scorer each receiving N$100.Last year, Kayambu FC were crowned champions after defeating EDU FC in the final. They will be among the teams expected to return this year in an effort to defend their title.The tournament draw is scheduled for August 20 at 18:00 at Elim Google Business Park, where participating teams will discover their opponents for the competition.Apart from football, the tournament will also provide opportunities for businesses and small and medium-sized enterprises to promote their products and services.Exhibitor stalls are available at N$150 each and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.Organisers are calling on teams, businesses and the community to support the tournament and help make the 2026 edition another successful celebration of youth football in Elim.– jesse@nsh.com.na
