Deutsche Höhere Privatschule Windhoek (DHPS) delivered an outstanding performance at the Namibia Youth Volleyball Festival, with every team entered finishing on the podium at the MTC Dome in Swakopmund last weekend.

The school’s U13 Girls B, U15 Girls, U17 Girls and U17 Boys all claimed gold, while the U13 Girls A team secured a bronze medal. The achievement saw all five DHPS teams return home with medals, including four championship trophies.

DHPS Volleyball coach Kudakwashe Mutasa praised the players for their commitment and teamwork throughout the tournament.

“This is a proud moment for our volleyball programme. Reaching the podium reflects the hard work the players have put in during training. This is a fantastic achievement,” he said.

“I am proud of every player, assistant coach, and parent who contributed to this success. This is another step in building a strong volleyball culture at DHPS.”

The event brought together more than 400 young athletes from 37 teams from the U13 to U21 age categories, who battled it out for top honours.

Significant progress

Tournament director Joel Matheus highlighted the significant progress made by both individual players and participating teams.

“What is particularly special about this year’s edition is the remarkable improvement demonstrated by both individual players and teams in terms of the overall standard of play,” he said.

Mathues noted that this reflects the coaches and schools’ commitment to investing in the preparation and development of their players.

“The noticeable progress made by most teams is a strong indication that our efforts to create this platform are not in vain. It also serves as great motivation for us to continue growing and improving the tournament,” he noted.

Another tournament director, Hillary Dux Imbuwa, expressed appreciation to everyone who made the event a success.

He thanked the players, participating schools, teachers, parents, individual supporters, the Erongo Volleyball Association and OTB Sport.

“Their invaluable support and commitment played a vital role in making the tournament a success. All winners from the different age categories were awarded trophies and medals,” he said.
