Cosafa U17 girls should be supported, says NFA

As hosts, the Namibia Football Association (NFA) is busy with the final touches ahead of the Cosafa Under-17 girls’ championship taking place in Windhoek kicking off this Saturday (10 to 17 May).Spokesperson of the association Isack Hamata has confirmed that the country is ready to host the competition as teams are expected to arrive as from today. “From a logistics perspective, the competition venue has been secured and is being prepared in terms of cutting the grass to the appropriate and required length, putting all other necessities in place. “Teams’ accommodation has been secured. At this point, Cosafa (Council of Southern Africa Football Associations) and the NFA are putting the young referees through a preparatory training workshop which will go until Friday, one day before kick-off of the tournament,” Hamata said. Hosting the Cosafa under-17 girls’ tournament will be a test run for the multi-sport AUSC Region Five Games which will also take place in Namibia from 4 to 13 July this year. It is for this reasons the Region Five volunteers have been integrated to get a feel of how it will be to work at an international sports competition.“Even some heads of Region Five sub-committees are part of the Cosafa Under 17 girls tournament,” Hamata said. Entrance to matches is free for the public, but fans will still have to get free entrance tickets available at Soccer House, or on match days at the gates of the Hage Geingob Stadium for purposes of measuring how many people attend matches each day. Namibians are urged to attend the Cosafa Under-17 Girls Championship matches at Hage Geingob Stadium in Windhoek from 10 to 17 May.“Our Namibian team coached by Errol Damaseb needs everyone Namibian person’s support to ensure that they go as far as possible in the tournament. “We must make our homeground advantage count by cheering the loudest.“The NFA’s plea emphasizes supporting not only the Namibian team, but also recognizing football's broader socio-economic impact on our country, including youth development, business opportunities, and national pride,” he added. The NFA believes a high attendance will demonstrate Namibia's capability to host larger international competitions. They call on Namibians to fill the stadium, show their support, and prove their claims as a football-loving nation ready for bigger sporting events.Namibia U17 girls’ Cosafa group A fixtures:10 May (day 1): v Malawi (15:00).13 May (day 4): v Comoros (15:00).
