Capricorn Eagles receive N$1.2m backing

Capricorn Group has renewed its partnership with Cricket Namibia, committing N$1.2 million over the next two years to support the development of women’s and girls’ cricket in the country.The renewed agreement will run from 1 June 2026 to 31 May 2028 and continues Capricorn Group’s role as naming partner to the national women’s cricket team, known as the Capricorn Eagles.The partnership will also support the national Under-19 women’s team, girls’ cricket festivals and the girls’ school league, as Cricket Namibia continues to strengthen the women’s cricket pathway.In addition to the financial contribution, Capricorn Group will provide the Capricorn Eagles and the national Under-19 team with branded promotional items to strengthen visibility and deepen support for the women’s game.Capricorn Group, with the support of its subsidiaries Capricorn Asset Management and Capricorn Private Wealth, became the primary sponsor of women’s cricket in 2021 and has continued to support the team since then.Long-term backingThe Capricorn Eagles brand has become a recognised symbol of excellence and growth in women’s cricket, both locally and internationally, reflecting the team’s progress and Capricorn Group’s long-standing backing of the game.Capricorn Group chief brand and corporate affairs officer Marlize Horn said the renewed partnership reflects the group’s belief in using sport to create opportunities beyond the field of play.“At Capricorn Group, we believe sport has the power to unlock potential, inspire ambition and create opportunities that extend far beyond the field of play.“Our continued partnership with Cricket Namibia is therefore not only an investment in the Capricorn Eagles, but in the broader advancement of women’s and girls’ cricket in Namibia,” she said.Horn said the group has seen the team grow in confidence, visibility and competitiveness since 2021, showing what is possible when talent is matched with sustained support.“We are proud to continue backing these remarkable athletes and to help build a stronger pathway for the next generation of girls in cricket,” she said.Building the pathwayCricket Namibia chief executive officer Johan Muller said Capricorn Group’s continued support is a strong endorsement of the progress made in women’s cricket and the potential that still lies ahead.“Their sustained support has helped us expand opportunities for girls to enter the game, strengthen our national talent pipeline and raise the profile of women’s cricket on local and international platforms.“This renewed commitment gives us greater momentum to keep building a competitive and sustainable future for the sport,” Muller said.– mariud@nsh.com.na
