Benjamin learns from Lesotho draw

Brave Warriors coach Collin Benjamin is adamant that the players have had something to learn from their 1-1 draw against Lesotho in Soweto. The new-look Brave Warriors started the international friendly on Saturday without most of their regular stalwarts against a well-drilled Lesotho.It was however much more of an experiment for Benjamin to give some of his new selections their debut.“It was a good game for us and we played against a good technical assembled side.“We showed a couple of good touches that could have worked out for us but we did not use them.“All in all, I think it was a good challenge from Lesotho and giving the new players some game time was very important,” Benjamin said.The Brave Warriors opened the scoring in the second half through midfielder Erastus Kalula after the first half ended goalless. Kalula was among several newcomers in the national setup, also including the likes of Moses Shidolo, Ben Namib, David Ndeunyema, Lawrence Doeseb and Ndjiraeree Maharero. However, Lesotho equalised through defender Motlomelo Mkhwanazi minutes after the Brave Warriors scored their goal.“We have two important World Cup qualifying matches and I am positive the team will be up for the challenge. “We need to make sure that we do get points against two strong teams in the group,” the coach said.The Namibians are set to play against Liberia (on Wednesday 5 June) and Tunisia (Sunday 9 June) at the Orlando Stadium in their ambition to qualify to their first-ever FIFA World Cup.Benjamin will however be concerned following the injury of captain Peter Shalulile, the team’s goal-scoring talisman who is a doubt for the two matches. Namibia currently lead the group with six points, level with Tunisia.
