Bank Windhoek Golf Day drives support for fight against cancer

Bank Windhoek recently brought corporate teams, golf enthusiasts and partners together at the Windhoek Golf Club for a purpose-driven Golf Day.The event held last Friday combined spirited competition with meaningful support for Namibians affected by cancer. Participating teams consisted of four players each.The top three winning teams were Kerizma Investments in first place, followed by Malligan Masters in second place and Stroke of Credit in third place.Held under the theme “Together We Echo Hope, Swing Against Cancer”, the event culminated in a dinner, a prize-giving ceremony, and a sponsored auction, which raised over N$100 000.Proceeds from the auction will support the Bank Windhoek Cancer Apple Project and the Cancer Association of Namibia’s cancer awareness, outreach and screening programmes, patient assistance and palliative care services.The Golf Day builds on a landmark year for the Bank Windhoek Cancer Apple Project, which raised a record N$4 million in 2026. This brought the initiative’s total contributionto the Cancer Association of Namibia since its inception in 2000 to N$42.4 million.Power of collective actionBank Windhoek’s Executive Officer of Retail Banking Services, Leon Koch, said the event reflected the power of collective action.“This Golf Day is about far more than the game. It is about using partnership, generosity and a shared sense of purpose to extend awareness, care and hope to people affected by cancer across Namibia,” he said.“The record N$4 million raised through the Cancer Apple Project this year shows what is possible when communities and businesses stand together,” Koch said.Bank Windhoek thanked the event’s hole activation sponsors for helping to create a memorable and engaging day on the course.The sponsors were Santam, which sponsored the N$100 000 hole-in-one prize; EY Namibia; Capricorn Asset Management; the Bank’s Business Banking department; MobiPay; Jägermeister; Castle Lite and Meatco.The Bank also expressed its appreciation to Legacy Hotels, O&amp;L Leisure, Great Brands Media, Lake Oanob Resort, River Crossing Lodge, Kwessi Dunes, Zera Leather, Nakara, Tide 6, Bushwhackers, Dan Zwiebel and DZ Golf, Gloudie from Events Unlimited, Lapa Lange Boutique Lodge and Naankuse for contributing auction items.Act of solidarityKoch further added that every sponsored item, every bid and every team that took part represented a practical act of solidarity.“Together, these contributions help strengthen essential cancer services and bring dignity and support closer to individuals and families who need it most,” he noted.The tournament also celebrated teamwork, sportsmanship and the relationships thathave made the Bank Windhoek Golf Day a valued annual event.Players competed in a Fourball Alliance format, with two scores to count on all holes and a scramble drive.Through initiatives such as the Cancer Apple Project and the Golf Day, Bank Windhoek continues to mobilise its customers, partners and communities around a national cause that affects thousands of Namibians.The Bank remains committed to supporting the Cancer Association of Namibia’s work and to turning collective goodwill into practical, lasting impact.– mariud@nsh.com.na
