The Namibia Youth Volleyball Festival concluded at The Dome on Saturday, with Afrocat Sports Club and Delta Volleyball Club establishing themselves as the leading teams, while Zimbabwe’s ATS side also left their mark.
The festival drew 35 teams from across Namibia, joined by youth players from Zimbabwe. Matches were contested throughout the day in age categories ranging from under-13 to U20, with champions crowned in eight divisions.
Christ’s Love took top honours in the U13 category, winning both the boys’ and girls’ titles.
Delta Volleyball Club dominated the U15 age group, securing victory in both the girls’ and boys’ competitions. Zimbabwe’s ATS team claimed the U17 girls’ crown, while Afrocat Sports Club stamped their authority at senior youth level by winning three divisions: U17 boys, U20 girls, and U20 boys.
Namibia Volleyball Federation president Tobias Mwatelulo hailed the festival as an important platform for developing the country’s next generation of talent.
“We are committed to preparing you for the highest levels of competition, including the Olympic Games and podium finishes at international events,” he said.
Festival organiser Hillary Dux Imbuwa praised the enthusiasm shown by players and the dedication of former volleyball leaders to the grassroots game.
“We are so passionate and dedicated to the game of volleyball that we felt we should continue to contribute, especially when it comes to grassroots development.
"We had 35 teams in total, both genders, and a visiting team from Zimbabwe. We are looking forward to a bigger event next year,” he said.
The festival awarded cash prizes worth N$24 000 across all categories, in addition to medals and trophies valued at N$15 000.
