Africa Zone VI Beach Volleyball Tour to open at DTS

The Confederation of African Volleyball (CAVB) Zone Six Beach Volleyball Tour is set to kick off its 2024 season with the first leg hosted by Namibia.
The event will take place at the DTS beach volleyball courts in Windhoek from 4 to 7 April.
This leg marks the beginning of a series of tournaments across the Zone, with countries such as Mozambique, Malawi and South Africa set to host subsequent legs. Namibia, having hosted the same leg last year on Easter weekend at the Mole Beach in Swakopmund, is ready to once again welcome beach volleyball enthusiasts from across the region.
Teams from Botswana, South Africa, Zimbabwe and Angola have already confirmed their participation in this exciting event. Namibia will be represented by six male and six female teams, showcasing the country's talent and commitment to the sport.
Mr. Tobias Mwatelulo, vice-president of the Namibian Volleyball Federation (NVF), expressed his enthusiasm for hosting the event: “We are thrilled to welcome teams from across the Zone to Namibia for the first leg of the CAVB Zone VI Beach Volleyball Tour. This tournament not only provides a platform for fierce competition, but also promotes camaraderie and friendship among participating nations. We look forward to showcasing the vibrant beach volleyball scene in Namibia and fostering closer ties with our neighbouring countries.”
The CAVB Zone VI Beach Volleyball Tour serves as a crucial platform for teams to compete at the zonal level, with an eye on international competitions such as the African and Olympic qualifiers.
40TH DOC TOURNAMENT
The NVF will host the Bank Windhoek-NVF Doc Tournament at the MTC Dome in Swakopmund this weekend in celebration of 40 years of volleyball.
NVF president Hilary Imbuwa in a statement said the tournament was named in tribute to Dr Juergen Munz, a trailblazer in the local sport during the early 1970s and 80s. The tournament was started in 1983 by the former South West Africa Volleyball Association (SWAVA).
Imbuwa said the 40th anniversary edition is expected to be a historic occasion, with 16 female and 19 male teams from all over Namibia expected to compete.
Following the cancellation of the 2020 Doc Tournament due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the 40th anniversary celebration was rescheduled for 2024 instead of 2023.
The tournament is sponsored by Bank Windhoek, Calvary Technologies, the MTC Dome, OTB Sports and Venus Enterprises, amongst others.
