Volleyball teams ready for NVF Doc Tournament action
This year's edition of the annual Bank Windhoek Namibian Volleyball Federation (NVF) Doc Tournament will take place in Swakopmund on 9 and 10 April.
The Bank Windhoek Namibian Volleyball Federation (NVF) Doc Tournament is hosted in the Erongo region annually. This years' edition of the prestigious tournament will be held at the MTC Dome from 9 to 10 April, with players between 16 and 43 years old expected to take part in the action.
It is an open tournament that attracts teams from all over the country. According to Joseph Amakali, the technical director of NVF, a team from Germany also took part in the tournament a few years ago. “So far, 18 teams registered and we expect another 12 teams to register before the closing date. Last year, 23 teams with 252 players in total competed at the event."
Revivals won the ladies category in 2021 and emerged as champions of the well-organized competition which produced thrilling volleyball action. They defeated first-time participants Kudos with 3-0. The pre-tournament favourites, Khomas Nampol Volleyball Club, defeated Eleven Warriors 2-1 in the third-place play-offs. DTS are the defending men's competition champions. They defeated Kudos 3-2 in the final and the Happydu-team with 2-1 in the first semi-final match. Kudos defeated Namibian Correctional Services for a spot in the final.
PRIZES
The first team will walk away with N$ 8 000, the second team will scoop N$ 6 000, the third team N$ 4 000 and the fourth team N$ 2 000. There are medals for first, second and third positions and also floating trophies. The prizes are the same in both categories (men and women).
Amakali and the rest of the Namibian Volleyball Federation members invite the public to attend the event as there will be a lot of exciting games. The entrance fee for spectators is N$20.
