Volleyball for All thrills

The Windhoek Draught Volleyball for All organisers lauded the participants who made the one-day competition worthwhile on Saturday.

This after over 200 teams challenged each other for top honors and bragging rights at the DTS Sports Field in Windhoek.

“We would like to thank all the participants who came in their numbers to support this competition. It was indeed a great event which lived up to expectations on the day.

“We would also like to thank all the sponsors who came on board and everyone who was part of this success story,” tournament director Heiko Kesselmann noted.

The tournament saw ES Pass 2 beating Casa 5-1 in the final to claim the winning spot, while Vikings took the third place after beating NamPower 2 in the play-offs.

Team-building

The competition also saw a number of corporate companies using the day as an opportunity to strengthen relationships between employees.

The feeling on the ground was that it was a great opportunity for team-building, even if it was still a competitive platform.

Most companies have assured their commitment towards the event next year.

Former Namibia Sports Commission chairperson Joel Matheus commended the organisers for hosting such a great event.

Matheus, who was also in action for his team, said he enjoyed the day.

“I am very delighted to be here because it is fun game that unites us all.

“Volleyball is a top sport and I just hope that it can continue growing in this country,” he said.

One of the participants, Hackey Tjizumaue, said he does not regret being part of such a competition.

“This was my first time being here and I must say that it was a super event which I enjoyed.

“It does not only create a platform for team-building, but it also allows some companies to network.

“I have no doubt that I would like to be part of this next year and the year after that too,” he said.
