No money for first division play-off clubs
Traut explains NFA’s position
The NFA says clubs have to make use of existing funds and are encouraged to get their own additional funds in order to remain self-sufficient.
Namibia Football Association (NVA) secretary-general Jochen Traut has revealed that the association is not in a position to fund teams battling for first division play-offs due to the fact that they were already remunerated earlier.
This comes after several football clubs and members in football circles expressed dismay over the fact that the teams have had to play without transport allowances.
Manage funds
The play-offs have been scheduled to take place in different towns, where teams from the second division have been competing for a place in the first division.
"Clubs got grants for the whole season from the NFA, and they have to manage these funds. The Namibia Football Association cannot fund clubs for all their activities," Traut said.
The NFA added that clubs have to make use of their funds and are encouraged to get their own additional funds in order to remain self-sufficient.
Not enough
The clubs have argued, however, that the grants they have received are insufficient and cannot last a complete season, which has made it difficult for them to travel from place to place.
The NFA, for the time being, has maintained their stance on the matter.
The association says it will only cater to the logistics it deems fit to take care of at the moment.
"Kindly be informed that clubs participating during the 2023–24 football season promotion play-offs will not be financially assisted by the NFA," the association said in a statement.
The association is, however, responsible for the logistical costs of these events, such as venues, match officials, medics and security.
