MTC Netball league a success
Round seven and eight
Otjiwarongo saw 12 teams taking part in exciting games at Paresis Park.
Great netball action over took place over the weekend as round seven and eight of the MTC Namibia netball premier league concluded in style.
The league kicked off on 4 March and is set to end in September, with the winners going home with N$150 000, second place N$80 000 and third place N$60 000.
The technical director of Netball Namibia, Marvellous Khaebes-Ochar, said this year’s league is competitive compared to last year's and that players are excited and committed towards the league.
“This competitiveness will give us an opportunity to scout for players with the right talent to represent Namibia on the national level, one could see the great fitness among the players,” she said.
Khaebes-Ochar added that the league has some of the under-19 players who are being groomed to play on national level.
The next round of the league will take place in Oshakati on 7 and 8 May, and the games will return to Otjiwarongo on 23 May.
Erasmus Nekundi, communication officer at MTC, says netball is one of the fastest-growing sports in the country and has the potential of becoming a competitive league with good management.
“We as MTC saw this potential and decided to be part of it with the little we have so that we help Netball Namibia to reach the standards it would want to reach,” Nekundi said.
Nekundi added that there are other sport codes they would like to tap into, and that they wish they were in the position to support them all.
Jessica Nandova from Otjiwarongo Nampol is leading on the shooters log standing with a 90% shot accuracy, followed by Ehrenfriede Uahongura from Mighty Gunners with 88% and the most goals standing at 212.
