Gerhard Mans kon ook Springbok geword het

Very sad to hear about Gerhard Mans' tragic accident. He was a true gentleman on and off the rugby field. I have very fond memories of being a TV sports reporter for the SWABC/SWAUK in Windhoek in 1988 and reporting on the exploits of Gerhard and his men who punched far above their weight in the old Currie Cup league. On the pitch he was a lion. Off the pitch he was the epitome of modesty, always generous with his time, naturally camera-shy but always articulate and fair in his analysis of games, strategies and plays. On the few times I asked the late Doc Craven for his views, he never failed to single Gerhard out for special praise. Sincere condolences to Gerhard's family, friends, colleagues, former team-mates, rivals and fans. Namibia and the world is poorer without Gerhard Mans. - Linden Birns, Noordhoek, Cape Town.
