Expect surprises at Day of the Dolphin

Three premier league clubs will be among the eight contenders for the prize money.
Dolphin Rugby Club’s proud tradition of hosting its annual Day of the Dolphin should once again deliver several noteworthy highlights for spectators at the Tamariskia field in Swakopmund this Saturday.
The 15-a-side tournament is played in the shortened format (two halves of 10 minutes, with a two-minute break).
The winning prizes in the men’s competition (first prize N$10 000 and a floating trophy; runner-up N$7 500) and the women’s tournament (first prize N$7 500 and a floating trophy; runner-up N$5 000) will be fiercely contested.
The individual men’s and women’s player of the day will each earn a medal and N$1 000.
A win will be worth four log points and a draw two each. Bonus points are up for grabs by scoring four tries in a match, or losing by seven points or less. Log points are however subtracted for each yellow card (-1) or red card (-2).
The contenders
FNB Kudus, FNB Unam and FNB Grootfontein are three clubs from the Namibia Rugby Union’s premier league with well-known and established potential match-winners.
Hosts Dolphins had a great season in the NRU first division, until their unexpected exit in the quarter-final. Dolphin has entered two teams for this tournament, namely Dolphin White and Dolphin Black.
Three exciting new teams have entered the tournament.
The 061 Rangers are a combination of players from Windhoek, Rehoboth and Mariental – a diverse group from different clubs, united by a passion for rugby and the common goal to showcase their skills, revel in the joy of the game while aiming to secure victory.
The Gorillas have been assembled from Windhoek, Swakopmund, Grootfontein and Walvis Bay. Their players, who have previously battled on opposing sides, are now teaming up to play an exciting, physical brand of rugby with the ambition to clinch the title and make a name for themselves.
The Reho Falcon Legends present a celebration of the club’s 30th anniversary this year. Sons of Reho Falcon founding players have come together from Windhoek, Rehoboth and Swakopmund to represent their fathers’ pride, they’re determined to re-establish the exciting brand the black jerseys were always known for.
Get ready for an unforgettable day packed with thrilling rugby action, camaraderie, and a fierce desire to win.

Matches start at 08:00. The men’s semi-finals are scheduled at 17:30 and 18:00, and the final at 19:00.
