Beach games to liven up Easter
Action at Long Beach
A sports promotion and management company intends to bring some action-packed sporty fun to Long Beach this Easter.
Soccer, volleyball and rugby teams can pocket some extra cash as competitors at the inaugural edition of the Modish Sport (MS) Pro Beach Games.
The winners for the volleyball competition will walk away with N$10 000 (2nd place N$7 000), the soccer champions will pocket N$12 000 (2nd place N$10 000) and the rugby winners N$10 000 (2nd place N$7 000).
According Willibard Angula, the founder of MS, the idea stems from a sports fanatic that witnessed top Namibian talent go to waste due to a lack of finances, parental support and opportunities. "MS believes when sports are utilized well, it can be a catalyst to turn around an ailing economy like ours, with or without governmental support.”
Angula says the event will bring together locals from Walvis Bay and Swakopmund, and anyone fit enough above the age of 21 can enter.
“MS intends to host the PRO Beach Games twice a year with the first being this Easter and the next scheduled for later this year. Sports are very important from an educational point of view. It teaches us to bind and build together as members of a team. Participants also socialize and interact with each other. Sports also teach us that hard work leads to success."
He explained that Modish Sports is looking to promote all sporting codes, from the most to the least popular like darts, e-sports and extreme sports in addition to promoting Namibia as a top destination for future beach sports games.
Angula challenged businesses to join the effort by using the Pro Beach Games as an advertising and marketing platform. "The games will be streamed live on Facebook and our YouTube channel, MoTv. “This provides businesses with a perfect opportunity to showcase their brands not only to Namibians, but to all those that will tune in from different parts of the globe. There are also outlets available for local vendors.”
He urged Namibians to follow MS on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook for constant updates. "We would like to invite everyone that will be traveling to the coast this Easter to make their way to the MS Pro Beach Games. Bring the cheer, and let's make the most of what Namibia and its ocean has to offer.”
The entry fee for volleyball teams with a maximum of four players (3 players on, 1 reserve) is N$1 360; N$2 100 for soccer teams with a maximum of seven players (5 players on, 2 reserves) and N$1 960 for rugby teams with a maximum of seven players (5 players on, 2 reserves).
