Metro Supermarket new retail branch
Bigger and Better
Metro retail outlet has officially launched its new retail branch in Swakopmund recently. The supermarket offers a wider variety which focuses more on the fresh products of the store compared to the standard cash and carry.
Managing Director of Metro Cash and Carry, Bryan Davis, says the newly opened branch represents a shift for Metro, traditionally known for its wholesale and extensive retail-wholesale operations. This new branch focuses exclusively on retail, featuring a more compact format designed to better integrate with local communities. “Our business to date has mainly been either wholesale or a combination of retail and wholesale,” Davis explained. “This new store is all about bringing fresh, high-quality products directly to the neighbourhoods.”
Currently, Metro operates 30 branches across Namibia, with plans to expand further by the end of the year. Swakopmund is already home to two Metro branches the Mega Store and the Cash and Carry, however the new retail-focused store introduces a fresh approach with an emphasis on convenience and quality.
Among the standout features of the new store are its extensive fresh food offerings, including a bakery, butchery, and a variety of prepared hot foods. Davis highlighted the store’s commitment to fresh produce and quality meats, noting that these departments are central to their new retail strategy.
Another highlight is the Metro Rewards Card, which offers customers points that can be redeemed for discounts and special offers. “Everybody should have one,” Davis encouraged. “With almost 300,000 cards already in circulation, it’s clear our customers appreciate the value and benefits of the rewards program.”
The enthusiasm surrounding Metro's latest store indicates the company's popularity and customer loyalty. “Our slogan is ‘bigger, better, and always cheaper,’” Davis said. “We strive to live up to that promise every day, and it's gratifying to see such a positive response from the community.”
The new supermarket will be operating from Monday to Sunday and will be open from 08:00 to 20:00.
With the new store now open and thriving, Metro Supermarket continues to strengthen its presence in Namibia, offering an expanded range of services and products designed to meet the needs of local consumers.
