Martin and Bathfield dominate in the north

The Tsumeb Rally, with ten special stages and presented by the Tsumeb Motor Club on Saturday, was won by Zachary Martin (S2) in the S-class for cars and Loic Bathfield (CR1) in the challenge section for off-road vehicles.The hard, stony earth of the North once again claimed its quota of victims. In the S class, Dippies Dippenaar and Meyer Duraan, Gerhard Visser and Geraldine Swart, Wilro Dippenaar and Carolyn Swan as well as Pierre Röhm and Pieter Steyn experienced breakdowns.Dippies and Gerhard were able to complete the competition under super rally rules, but did not earn any championship points for their efforts. However, Wilro and Pierre’s participation was bought to a premature end.Wido Bartsch and Raymond Fourie (S2) achieved a very good second place, with Pieter Greeff and Steven Robinson (S1) nine seconds later in third position.In the challenge class there were no mechanical withdrawals.Bathfield once again proved to be a master of the brute 7-litre V8 power of his Century CR6. His total time in the race (1 hour 02 minutes 58 seconds) was almost twelve minutes faster than that of Martin in 1:14:51.Rian Kritzinger and Ian Stander took the second place, with Ekko Eisenberg and Rassie Rietz third.Summarised results:S Class overall: 1 Martin/Anique Schoeman (1:14:51), 2 Bartsch/Fourie (1:18:11), 3 Greeff/Robinson (1:18:20).Winners by classS1: Greeff/Robinson.S2: 1 Martin/Schoeman, 2 Bartsch/Fourie.S4: 1 Gerhard Truter/Louise Truter (1:55:48).CR Class overall: 1 Bathfield/Steyn (1:02:58), 2 Kritzinger/Stander (1:15:03), 3 Eisenberg/Rietz (1:17:56).CR1 (2x4): Same as for overall.CR2 (4x4): 1 Werner Bartsch/Christel Fourie (1:21:04).The next rally, the fifth round of the National Championship, will be hosted by Redline Motor Club at the capital on October 20 and 21. – tielman@republikein.com.na
